Bob Garbe began a career in the pipefitting industry at the age of 17. His natural abilities in math and physics served him well, and he was soon fabricating piping according to design plans. Very early on, Bob realized that the piping fabrication process was lacking in efficiency according to its design, it would inevitably require modification and rework when it was time for installation. Out of curiosity, he began to review P&ID's and project specifications to locate and address areas of concern before the onset of fabrication. Over time, the companies he was working for began to realize that this checking process was well worth the time investment. Implementing Bob's reviews, they were able to drastically reduce construction rework, which also meant saving time and money. They were also able to forge productive relationships with their engineering groups as they worked hand-in-hand to reduce design discrepancies.
Bob went on to refine this liaison and quality control process over the years and now works as a contracted consultant to lessen the gaps between the engineering process, shop fabrication, and on-site construction. Bob provides services not only in the mechanical field but also in civil and structural design.
Throughout his early career, Bob remembers often hearing the phrase, "confusion equals cash." He strongly disliked this mentality and the way it was accepted and even embraced as an inevitable outcome. Ever since reviewing his first P&ID's and seeing the positive results, Bob has dedicated his career to bringing increased efficiency and quality. To this day, it is his passion to reduce and eliminate confusion and subsequent rework at all levels of construction.
Garbe's Mechanical was formed in 2001 as a consulting company in response to the demands of a wide range of companies who needed what he had to offer.
